Development of the Competition Theory: the Contribution of the Domestic and Western Scientific Schools
Kravtsevich S.V.
Abstract
The article considers modern scientific views on the concept of "competition", which has two methodological directions of development. Researchers adhere to the dialectic idealistic approach to the analysis of competition, which sees competition as a competitive processes in terms of the functioning of the single market mechanism, and the essence of "competition" is revealed through the notion of "competitive advantage". Other researchers stick to the dialectic-materialistic approach to the analysis of competition, which sees the competition as a set of conditions in which the flow of market processes and the essence of "competition" is revealed through the notion of "competitiveness". The article weighs the contribution of Russian scientists to the development of the theory of competition as they were able to overcome one-sided views on the matter. Applying the dialectic-materialistic fundaments of competition analysis while adhering to internal and external competition analysis (tiered competition), researchers have uncovered the essence and content of competition, respectively through the concept of "competitiveness" and "competitive advantage". The article considers separate contribution to the theory of competition made by representatives of the domestic school of economics. The authors propose a typology of competition, on the basis of a substantive review. It is also proposed to consider the concept of the development of economic competition; the dialectic of the concepts of "competitive advantage" and "competitiveness"; the synergetic and cybernetic concept of the development of competition; a methodology for the study of a competitive environment. It is also proposed to consider the valuation of competitiveness through the introduction of the concept of "reserve of competitiveness". The author also offers to consider the global and local level of competition analysis; the scientific and technical progress is viewed as a factor in the development of competition; cluster formation, as a result of competitive processes under the conditions of the functioning of the market mechanism.
